Dark Cage

in this dark cage – I don’t know if it’s night or day
in this dark cage – the cover’s shut, key thrown away
in this dark cage – time stands still
in this dark cage – has anyone earned to be in my will?

no one seems to feel my pain
out of touch
in this never-ending refrain

losing sight of the dreams you might never know
givin’ up, givin’ in all that makes sense to do
fooling you, telling you there’s no use to try
givin’ you the wrong excuse you weren’t born to hide
if you’re breathin’ the only way to go is up
you just can’t stop

in this dark age – if you find yourself in desperation
in this dark age – you are in need of some clarification
in this dark age – the light is here
in this dark age – you don’t belong in darkness, follow me

no one seems to feel your pain
out of touch
but this spell will not remain

don’t lose sight of the dreams you one day will know
don’t give up, don’t give in, there is a path for you
guiding you, wanting to unveil all the lies
showing you a new view ‘cause you were born to fly
if you’re breathin’ the only way to go is up
you just can’t stop

Behind the lyrics

In this song, I try to describe a feeling that I had for a long period of time. I felt like everything around me was black, like I was helpless and could not get out of my situation. It’s like I was stuck.
The song continues to say things that I would have needed to hear during that time, and I think there are others who need to hear these words today. John’s voice represents God and his encouragement in that situation.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
