Dismayed

Lyrics

you can’t stop crying, no matter how many years you’ve tried
you can’t stop hurting, no matter how many tears you’ve cried
maybe your heart has been broken beyond recognition
you feel like your heart has been damaged beyond repair
just when you started to feel like your life would be alright
the light at the end of the tunnel turned out to be a train

you walk in the shadow of the valley of death
I feel for you – I’ve been there too
but the shadow will come to an end
the rays of the warming sun will find you again
as you walk in the shadow of the valley of death
you have nothing to fear – I am here

my peace will override all fear when rooted in your heart for real
do not be dismayed, do not be dismayed, do not be afraid
you can’t stop dreaming, although you feel like you are awake
and you can’t stop hurting, no matter how many pills you take
maybe you’ve lost all your faith that your life will be normal
what if the key to retrieve your hope is inside of you

come to me all you burdened and weary
take my yoke upon you and you’ll see
I will gently and humbly teach you how to handle your stress
seek my kingdom and still find never ever ending everlasting rest

Behind the lyrics

This is about me (Zharlie), and if you can relate to the words, it’s about you too. I have several times in life felt that everything has fallen apart and that I have been devoured by anxiety. It has been caused by broken relationships, failed jobs, being burned-out, and more. I’ve tried different solutions to numb the pain but come to the conclusion that only what’s inside of me – my faith – can help me. My advice to you is: Don’t ever give up! Keep going! I have seen it so many times. Something good is around the corner. The rays of the morning sun WILL find you again. God is there for you through it all, and you don’t need to try so hard. I like “The Message”-version of Matthew 11:28–30 that says: “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
