Lyrics
did you see how she looked at me?
is my make up all over my face?
did you see how he eyeballed me?
I must be the ugliest face in this place
I am so trapped in this fixation
I don’t think I can live up to their hype
I will never know, but I assume
they all look down on me
don’t ask me how I know, but I assure you
they all hate me, they all hate me
don’t you assume the world’s against you
could be admiration or jealousy
you’re not in need of their approval
created in an image so perfectly
don’t you assume the world’s against you
could be admiration, or empathy
you’re not in need of their approval
try to love yourself and please don’t be
your own worst enemy
did you see how she looked at you?
I think she loves the color of your hair
did you see how he checked you out?
you might be the woman of his dreams
the fence around you is just painted
why are you here, you’re free to go
it can’t be proved, but I assume
they don’t look down on you
don’t ask me how I know, but I assure you
they don’t hate you, we don’t hate you
don’t you assume the world’s against you
could be admiration or jealousy
you’re not in need of their approval
created in an image so perfectly
don’t you assume the world’s against you
could be admiration, or empathy
you’re not in need of their approval
try to love yourself and cease to be
your own worst enemy
Behind the lyrics
Some of us are, or have been, in a battle that is quite counterproductive – the fight with ourselves. How God sees me isn’t the problem. How others see me may not be the problem. How I think others see me is often a problem. Many times the greatest problem is simply me. My mindset. How I see myself reflects my behavior towards God, others and myself. The New King James Version says it in a good way: “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7). It is life-changing to start thinking right about yourself, so try to think of yourself in a good way! Stand up straight and stop caring what other people think. You were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Try to love yourself and please don’t be your own worst enemy.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
– Psalm. 139:14
